Saved or Not
Two Questions to Help Determine Salvation Status
Once you know if someone is saved or not you have a starting point in your Can I Get A Witness ministry to him or her. Not everyone you reach out to needs a salvation experience. Some have already received Jesus.
There are two questions that go together you can use to help determine if someone has a relationship with God through Jesus Christ:
- “If you died right now would you go to Heaven?”
- “If Jesus Himself met you at the gate and asked you, ‘Why should I let you into my heaven?’ what would you tell Him?”
Having someone define for you why he or she believes they have eternal life lets you determine if they know (according to the Bible) what it takes. When you are reaching out to someone, asking questions that make them think about their eternity can hit them in the heart.
Other questions could be, “Are you saved?” or, “Are you born-again?” or, “Are you a Christian?” These questions cannot help you determine whether or not someone has a personal relationship with God. Those types of “closed-ended” questions cannot get to the core of their beliefs. Without getting to the core of their beliefs, you will not know for certain if they really are a born-again Christian. Some people who are not Christians have answered those closed-end questions with a “yes” just so they won’t have to stop and have a discussion about it. Questions like, “why,” “how come,” “what do you think,” and “explain to me,” will give people an opportunity to express what they truly believe, and finding out what they believe is your first goal.
Trust In The Word
Using the Bible as your authority eliminates your opinion—it keeps the conversation on something tangible. The Bible is something that anyone can determine exactly what it says. So when trying to ascertain a person’s “salvation status,” find out if their answer is in accordance with what the Bible says:
Romans 10:9-10 (NKJV)
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
John 3:16 (NKJV)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Knowing a person’s position with God gives you a starting point to minister to them through the Can I Get A Witness program.
